This is day 20. And I still got it!

So, I´ve been away for a while. Doesn´t mean the project is not going strong. In fact, is just the other way around. I´ve been so crazy busy with all my resolutions that I just couldn´t stop to write. Anyway, updates…  My fingers are sore, but when I strum my guitar it sounds more and more like music. On that department I found an interesting ally, but more on that later.  It´s been over a week since I drove an automatic car. So far, no accidents or fines, so the stick shift project is also going well! Well, some minor stalls, but that´s only normal I suppose. My cooking is even better (I love cooking already, so I can´t expect to improve that dramatically.) and I mastered a few new recipes. And do I miss boys?

Elementary my dear Watson. I have, however, found the perfect loophole! It allows me to think about boys, but from a nice and safe distance. I´d even say it´s  failproof. It´s called fantasy man. Mine is a gorgeous, incredibly talented and funny guy who you might have heard about before. His name is Mayer. John Mayer. And boy do I get material for fantasies from that one! I get to hear his soothing voice, his great fingering and multi-layered songs and BAM, I´m all in Lalaland.  The good thing about a fantasy guy is, I´ll probably never meet him so I´m free to imagine him as I want. No disapointments. Just from bad lyrics(never happens) or bad judgement in girlfriends(which unfortunately he has).    All in all, life is good. And boy free!  And a little taste from my man:

Talking is easy… Now give me a challenge!

Hi there folks, this is day four and so far things are doing quite well. My fingers already show calluses from guitar practise, I´ve mastered two amazing new recipes and managed to drive around for over one hour yesterday without stalling. Well, not many times at least. Most importantly, I´ve survived my first night in the town without breaking my rules, which was quite an  accomplishment as I´m about to explain.

So yesterday my dear friend J turned 26! Welcome to the club babe! Anyway, she obviously decided to have a fun girl´s night out to celebrate. And of course we all said yes. For me, that would be the ideal setting to try out my project. I mean, it´s pretty easy to be off men when you are cleaning the house, cooking or grocery shopping, but going out to the meat market and announce you´re a vegetarian? Doesn´t sound that inviting, does it?

So we were all pretty and dressed up. I was looking pretty cute and feeling great! Let´s go! As soon as we got to our chosen spot, I took a look around. Didn´t look too bad. Not many cute ones around. Yay. We had a few drinks, made a couple of toasts and were having a damn great time until a guy dropped by our table. This city isn´t known for being tha best place for hookups, mind you. People are closed up and clicky, so for a guy to drop by our table and start to chat was a earth shattering event. He wasn´t my type at all, so fine by me. Until his gorgeous friend shows up. Oops. I was in major trouble now!

Shouldn´t have worried. Turns out, the cutie was just nice and even though he´s exactly my type, cute  tortured poetic musician, we´ve managed to navigate through different subjects and avoid the flirting(he has a long time girlfriend and I´m on a break! whoa…)  and somehow said goodbye at the end of the night as just friends, if not a little tipsy… I was proud of myself, resisting cute musicians has been a challenge my entire life(my little black book is a proof of that), so I guess the odds are on for a certain person betting on how long I can last. Are you still on? ;)  ´Cause I`m GAME!

The resolution

I’m taking time off men!

I believe most women have uttered these words at least once. Mostly after a break up or major disappointment with the opposite gender. I know i have. But somehow right after I close my mouth some cute thing passes by and I think to myself : why not give him a chance?

Needless to say, I’m still single and every bad date brings me closer to the conclusion that maybe I’m not suited for relationships after all. That’s  why  the last  time I caught myself  thinking about taking a break from men,  I decided to  make it real. Jazz it up a bit. I work well with restrictions and rules. Most importantly, I love a good challenge. So, I hereby propose…

THE BOY FREE YEAR PROJECT

During the next 365 days, starting today, I’m not allowed to:

Engage in any kind of behavior that might lead to a romantic relationship with a guy. From flirting to sex, and everything in between.

Conversations to males are restricted to neutral themes. Something safe like politics, hockey or religion. =P

Purpose of he project:

Test just how much I can accomplish in a year once my focus won’t shift to a relationship.

Some of what I’d like to get done:

Re learn how to drive standard cars.

Acquire a new language.

Learn how to play the guitar.

Learn a bunch of new recipes and improve my favorite ones.

Have lots of girl time with my wonderful friends!

Maybe finish the first draft to my novel.

Keep this blog updated as the project progresses.

For the record, I’d like to state that I have nothing against the male gender. This project is a fun experiment I decided to conduct.  This is day one. 364 to go.
